Camouflaged Porsche 911 seen in Toronto. And it's not what you think...

Shannon Larrat picked up a Porsche 996 that had been totaled once, turned into a track car, and subsequently recertified for street use. And he wanted to do something interesting with it. Something different. Something fun. Larrat is himself a body-modification enthusiast, and as such he has no reservations about doing things that might cause others to raise their eyebrows and look askance. When it came to his Porsche, he decided to go for the gusto and give it a full camouflage paint job.
As in military.
"Wait just a minute," some of you are probably thinking. "Military camo? On a Porsche 911?"
Yep. And you know what? It's pretty damn cool. Sure, there are people who are probably horrified at the sight of the thing, but cars are made to be enjoyed, and Shannon appears to be enjoying his 996 thoroughly. It's certainly polarizing, as he writes that reaction from the public on the streets of Toronto has ranged from enthusiasm (smiling, snapping photos, etc) to people shooting looks of anger his way. No matter. You can't please everybody. This is a machine that's as unique as the person sitting in its driver's seat. And above all else, it's fun.
Fun's good.
Thanks to vectorbug for the tip.

Many folks are drawn to cars because of how they look, and the emotions that are drawn from the aesthetics. There are some of us that are more moved by how a vehicle performs and the sensations that are drawn from driving such a vehicle and that is were they find the beauty from.
In my opinion anyone that does this type of thing to a Porsche gets my thumbs up. I'm so sick of seeing folks baby their cars because of their external aesthetics or the cost of owning one, that they never learn the beauty of driving one up to the top of it's capabilities.
With a paint job such as that, it's obvious he loves to drive and doesn't care what his car looks like as long as it performs well. Some folks will consider it sacreligious, others will understand that his faith in his porsche is much higher than most.

I dig it. Wouldn't want it on my own car, but anything that makes a 911 stand out is good in my book. For anyone who gets upset about it, chill out. It's not like the damn things are rare or anything. Damned things are everywhere around here. Granted, here is Santa Barbara, but still.

I'm really having a hard time seeing the car..camo really does work. He should think about darkening the lights too.

Camo paint isn't all that uncommon on high end cars, though it's most often seen on Lambo's in rap videos. That said, this looks terrible. If you're going to camo paint a 911 then do it right - it shouldn't look like a rattlecan job, and this clearly does.

Looks 'OK'. I've seen it done better on a 996 GT2 in Germany a couple of years back.

haha you make it sound like its uncommon for high end cars to have regular paint (I have only ever seen one other 911 with a camo job and it was in germany, and 3 subaru wrx sti's and they were for the gumball rally sponsored by DC shoes). This was done at a body shop, not with spray cans from home depot. It just doesnt have the clear coat. But to each their own.

I could understand stealth technology radar-absorbing paint... not sure about the woodland camo job, though...

Reminds me of the TopGear where they went out and spent small money on used Porsches and had the Porsche club come out and judge their rides ... the looks on the Porsche guy's faces were priceless.

I never thought I'd see a really bad Bill Cosby movie come to life like that. All it needs is a turret and some killer frogs and we'll have Leonard Part 7.

If you're going to do something like this go whole hog and use digital camouflage. For Canada I guess that would be CADPAT.

Winter camo would have looked even better considering he's in Toronto.

This thing would look sweet with a rack of SAM'S (Surface to Air Missles), with brilliant red tips, mounted on the back.

I like it! You don't have to wax flat paint!
I think it needs a big white star on each door and serial numbers on the bumpers to complete the look.

A camo paint job in the city is the best way to stand out. Hope the guy actually wears camo while doing his business, so the circle is complete...

Hey, Autoblog, can you post the pictures that he adds later up here? He said that he would add some once he finds his camera charger, and I would like to see them.
Problem is, I dont want to bookmark it. I already have too many!
